IFS Report October 2010

by Sarah Graham

There are a couple of interesting things happening on the Carp Management front at Lake Sorell. For instance, Professor Peter Sorrensen, from the USA has been working with the Service in the carp pheremone trials at Lake Sorell which are being conducted at the moment. And there have been some interesting findings about the behaviour of juvenile carp, which have been observed to favour different habitats in the Lake compared with the adult fish. I will follow up with these stories over the next week or two.

Tooms Lake, October 13 2010

St Helens Report October 24 2010

Had a boys trip to St Helens on the weekend with great results, plenty of big salmon mainly in Moulting Bay & some in the channel. Also bagged a few silver trevally in the channel during a real purple patch on Sat evening. All were caught on soft plastics with a variety being used.

Also had a great session on the flathead with a couple of beauties being boated at the 65m mark straight out from heads.

Cheers Tim Gavin, Brady & Joel.

Fishing report Lake Leake Thursday 21st October.

Hi all,
Mike Stevens, Stuart Cotteral and myself fished Lake Leake this morning, conditions promised a lot but delivered little. We had opportunities although the fish were not as plentiful as we have seen on previous trips. They spooked very easily....saw a few gum beetles and smut on the water but that was about it. Finished up with two, one in good condition and the other "average". Both caught on Orange bead head nymphs hung 18 inches under a dry.
Regards,
President Todd

Port Sorell Report Sunday 17th of October 2010

A quick note to go with the photo of my wife Nikki Brown, taken on Sunday morning. We trolled for a couple of hours from the Port Sorell boat ramp upriver to Eagle point, picking up a few nice salmon and two decent Couta.
Enjoyed the sunshine and our new 429 seahorse and 30 fourstroke recently purchased from Port Sorell marine.
See you out there somewhere soon

by Sarah Graham

Maintenance work on the track into popular Brumbys Creek, near Cressy, known as Fisheries Lane was completed this week. The track had deteriorated signficantly due to the wet conditions in winter and spring with many large water filled potholes. Some were so big that the Service was considering stocking them!
