Swansea 1/2/2014

Bill Williams has been at me for a while to take him fishing. I always enjoy Bill's dry sense of humour so I told him to organise the weather for today (Sunday) and we would head to Swansea in pursuit of a flathead or two. I received a phone call on Wednesday saying he has spoken to the powers that the weather would be perfect ... and it was.

"Damsels in Distress" on a New Zealand Stream

Damsels in distress on a New Zealand stream
Our colleague Simon Perkins recently honeymooned in New Zealand with his wife, Els, and he captured this amazing footage. Here’s how he explains it:

My wife and I were fishing with friend/guide Dean Whaanga in New Zealand when a combination of bad weather and good timing resulted in a fish giving us the experience of a lifetime.

Great Lake 1/2/2014

We decided to head up to Great Lake today with George Papp hoping to get onto some fish out in the middle of the lake in the waves. We arrived around 11 am and finished around 5pm. Conditions were good, with a northerly wind around 10 to 15 knots and a clear sky, but did not see a fish. It must have spent a couple of hours out there, so we decided to head into Canal Bay for a look.

Recreational Net Fishing Ban

Hi, as many will know Tasmania has the most outdated rules in regard to recreational netting in Australia. We would like to change that. As has been clearly demonstrated - any area from which nets have been removed the fishing has improved. We all want fishing to improve. Supporting a recreational netting ban will do that. The Scalefish Plan review which is underway now gives us that chance.

Lake Augusta 26/1/2014

Had a trip to Lake Augusta today with mad George Papp, arrived at 11am and finished fishing around 4pm. It was bright and sunny conditions with light n.nw breeze. We had a lot of fish feeding on top early on to gummies, but going quiet later on when breeze picked up a bit, we managed 16 browns and 1 rainbow We only keeping our limit of five each of course with the rest released to fight another day.

Lake Leake 27/1/2014

With mainland guests (Kevin and Jules) over for the Australia day weekend, we hatched a plan to head to Lake Leake this morning and to be back at the Red Bridge Cafe at Campbelltown for a 9am breakfast. I was designated boat driver, Kevin was “bow ballast” and “net boy” and the two ladies (Janet and Jules) would fish.
