Mersey River Report

by Leigh Carpenter Hit the Mersey River middle reaches at dawn Sunday morning in search of Bream and fishing with plastics.
Landed one on a Squidgy bloodworm 100mm, nice fish 1.98kg and 48cm long.  We fished the low tide mark were the water quickly drops off into the channel along the oyster racks that run along the southern shore.  Keep your lure down deep and retrieve as you would for trout.

Lake Echo Report March 2011

Good things come to whose who wait!
A new year promise to an old friend, Mike, from Ulverstone, to take him fishing at Lake Echo finally came to fruition.
If you want to catch large numbers trolling it is imperative to have the weather conditions ‘spot on’. Wind less than 10 knots, heavy cloud, some drizzle and no thunder or lightening. After pestering the weather bureau for days Sunday’s weather forecast turned out to be ideal!

Squid Caught at Penguin

by Janeen Lillas
Caught recently on a kayak from the beach across from my house at Penguin. One hood measured 30 cm in length . As I gut them while still at sea I only return with the clean hoods. As you can see  I ended up plastered with ink as the big squid wouldn't fit in my net.

Recent Stocking of the Coal River

by Sarah Graham
The Inland Fisheries Service stocked the Coal River with 5,000 wild stock brown trout fingerling weighing around 20 g, on Tuesday 22 February. The young fish were marked by a clipping of the adipose fin so that they can be identified in future surveys to monitor the stocking effectiveness. They were put into 14 different locations in lots of 3-400, from below Craigbourne Dam to Fingerpost Bridge, south of Campania.

Lake Sorell – Reminder about Special Closure

by Sarah Graham
This is a reminder to anglers that Lake Sorell is closed for fishing. It was closed at the start of the 2010-11 angling season and will most likely remain closed next season. To avoid disappointment, anglers might instead consider going to Lake Crescent which is open for fishing.
