Swan River Report 25/10/2012

A mate rang me during the week and told me to try and get Thursday off for a day’s fishing. It didn't take me much to accomplish that part of the mission, so with that organised I rang back to make the plans for a trip to the Swan River. As it happened, my mate was now unable to attend this “planned outing” due to circumstances beyond his control (he is a big girlie man), so the only thing left to do was try and talk Trev into having a day off school.

Fishing around Devonport

The fishing at Devonport has been red hot the last few weeks despite the weather. A trip around town will show many people in boats and on shore fishing local waters. in the Mersey there are heaps if squid, with plenty of Salmon and Couta making a showing on the tide. Couta have been caught as far up river as Bells Pda at Latrobe. Bells Pde has also seen quite a fee Sea Runners being caught, mainly because of the incredible amounts of whitebait in the river and other local estuaries. There are few good Flathead also being caught near the mouth if the river.

Coastal Catches 25/10/2012

There are plenty of calamari squid being caught at the moment. Sisters beach is a popular and productive spot for them. One of the secrets to squid fishing is to anchor up and get a burley trail going and then fish your jigs into it. Use reasonably light flurocarbo leader and you will get more hook-ups. Better quality squid jigs will also catch more squid. If you don’t believe me then have a look at what the professionals use. Other places to try are Doctors Rocks at Wynyard, the Boat ramp at Emu Bay, Port Sorell and the bluff at Devonport. All are fishable from the shore.

East Coast Bream

Feels like years since I have posted a bit of a report, so I thought I would share a couple of recent trips Johnny and I have had to the East Coast chasing a few Bream.
Our first trip was early last week where we decided to head down for a look around to see what the Bream were up to.

Lake Leake 10/9/2012

My brother and I went for a fish down the lake, Connor was fishing off the rocks at the Kalangadoo Bay Boat ramp, and had a few hits from a rainbow, and then he hooked it. It was 30 cm, we headed Back home as the rain started to really come down, and at about 4:30, we went back down as the rain had eased. I had a few hits from this small Rainbow, but I cast out to where there is this stump, let it sink and worked it back. On the 3rd time I let it sink,

Curries River Dam 22/10/2012

Went to Curries River Dam for 9am Sunday at the Dam wall.  I was using Chunky Cheese power bait and caught this beauty in 15 mins.  The weather was quite windy so fly fishing was very difficult.  But if you were a fly fisher, then today would have been great.  Fish were rising until 10:30am.  Then nothing.

Leven River Report 19/10/2012

I had an appointment at Devonport planned today, so I organised a day off work, I also thought with all the rivers down that way, why wouldn't I take the boat? Naturally Trev came along for the ride , ..with the Leven our river of choice. With only a couple of hours to spare, we were hoping to snare a sea runner; hopefully I would be lucky this time, especially after Trevs effort last week.
