Brushy Lagoon Stocked with Salmon

The IFS stocked Brushy Lagoon with 230 Atlantic salmon on the 5 of June. The fish were donated by Petuna Aquaculture and average four kilograms. This will be welcome news for those wishing to chase some big fish over winter.
Please remember that there is a five fish daily bag limit with only two fish over 600 mm permitted to be taken.
Note that Brushy Lagoon is open from one hour prior to sunrise and closes one hour after sunset (newspaper times for sunrise and sunset). Please note that IFS officers will be actively enforcing the regulations so that everyone can enjoy this opportunity.

St Helens Report 4/6/2013

I had spoken to Jamie Henderson  late last week (from St Helens bait n tackle) and he assured me that Georges bay was on fire. So armed with information straight from a local fishing guru, i set the plan for taking a day off into motion today. With 5 knot wind and 17 degrees forecast Trev decided it probably would be better to come and keep an eye on me rather than go to school.

Tasmanian Family Fishing Festival

After a very successful first year the annual Tasmanian Family Fishing Festival will be on again on Saturday the 8th of June. The waters of Georges Bay, St Helens will be host to this great family event and what follows is a quick overview of the fish species to target this year as well as a few tips and hints on where and how to catch them.
The flyer for the Festival is available here and more information is available in the Tasmanian Fishing and Boating News April/May edition.

Australian Fly Fishing Museum Now Open

Here is an update.
We held the opening dinner Friday 3 May and it was a huge success.
Rex hunt emceed the night and Tamie Fraser was the guest speaker. We reckon Tamie told the best joke - sorry Rex. A Nick Taransky rod was auctioned for $7250 - perhaps a record for an Australian bamboo rod. It was donated by Nick and had a lovely Ross reel attached and that was donated by Andrew Braithwaite.

Trout weekend at Liawenee

We love Liawenee and hope to see you there. This year we have custom tasfish.com beanies and floating fillet knives as a special deal. So we hope it is really cold and blowing. You will also be able to check out the 4.45 metre Haines Hunter we have been rebuilding. I have done a bit, Penguin Composites have done a lot and it is looking really cool. See you 18 - 19 May 10-4pm at Liawenee.

MaST boating forums May 2013

Paloona is the one I would really like to see happen. There is no public access at the moment, and the water is actually for boating. It would take fishing pressure and conflict with skiers away from Barrington, which is the next water up in this scheme.
Many others are important, but this would be a huge benefit to NW coast.

Fortesque Bay 4/5/2013

We went to Fortesque Bay on Saturday afternoon . I went with Shippy and my Brother in law Andrew . We left at 3pm got there about 6.30 put the tent up in the rain and went to bed it rained all night up about 6.30am had some brekkie on the water around 7.30 . We headed for Tasman didn't have a touch till we got to Tasman then a rod went off . I grabbed the rod but I dropped him big time had a bird nestline everywhere got it all straightened out put an other lure on and we done another lap.

Lake Leake 4/5/2013

My fishing cobber and I finished-off the season last weekend at our main stamping ground - Lake Leake.
Frank took two browns and a nice rainbow on a Tassie Devil “Rowley’s Riot” hard lure. I took three rainbows – one on a Gary Glitter soft plastic and the other two on a small green wiggle-tail plastic.
Because of the powerful wind that just wouldn’t let up we stayed near the shacks, mainly near the dam and along to Cutting Grass. The browns were around the corner in the lee of Coglan’s Point. They were not much above a pound each but nicely coloured. Frank’s rainbow was one of the October released fish and still had quite a bit of the fish farm fat inside.

Next week we will have some tackle to give away, so stay tuned.
Chance to bag some cricket and fishing gear.

This year we have four members in the Australian team going to fish the World Championships in Norway.
A fund raiser is being held 1 June and you are invited to attend.
There are some great prizes. See the flyer attached.
Kind regards, Mike Stevens
