Australian Fly Fishing Museum Opens May 4th

The Australian Fly Fishing Museum and Clarendon
Clarendon House is one of the most important properties of the National Trust (Tasmania). It was built by James Cox in the 1830s and is an architectural and heritage icon with many unique features. Situated in Tasmania’s northern Midlands, the western side of the property is flanked by the South Esk River and across the river can be seen Symmons Plains. What has this got to do with a fly fishing museum? Fly fishing in Australia is predominately fly fishing for trout and it was James Arndell Youl* from across the river at Symmons Plains who was primarily responsible for the successful acclimatisation of trout in the southern hemisphere.

Four Springs 24/4/2013

I returned to Four Springs again today for round 2. The curse left today thanks to Vic he told me to use a spin rod to start the day off and when I had caught a fish then I could use the fly rod.
It worked after casting my arm off landed a nice 3 1/2 LB. brown. I then reverted to the fly rod with the orange bead headed nymph and hooked up and all hell broke loose. Vic was running round the boat pulling drogues in and moving rods lifting motors while trying to reach the net.

Vic and I fished it today on our way home from the highlands
Vic got 5 fish, 1 browns of 3LB> and the other 4LB. 2 really nice rainbows and
a smaller brown. He also dropped 3 good fish.
We have decided to fish it again tomorrow.
Also can you let it be known who ever put the curse on me take it off now
that the season is closing as I would like to catch a couple of fish.

Curries River Lake

We had a trip to Curries River Lake today with Dale & Trev Howard. Dale picked me up around 10.30am and we arrived there about 11.15am. No one else was there which was good so we had the lake to ourselves. We headed off to the south east corner where the small river enters the lake, things were quiet early, but we picked up plenty of fish on the sounder and they seemed to be hugging the bottom.

Game Fishing Round Up

Bluewater - people have been taking advantage of good weather to target striped trumpeter. Those finding good ground holding large numbers of fish have been getting there bag in short time.
Bluefin have been slow since a promising first start. Mark Lagerwooski who skippers the vessel Risky Rider put his crew on to a nice 80kg Bluefin with the rod work being handled by Rudy Zarzoff.

The next two weeks are the last hurrah for the Brown Trout season and many anglers organise a “last trip” of the season in this time. The Great Lake is well worth a try as there has been some really nice fish caught recently. The Great Lake has plenty of Rainbow Trout and if you are lucky enough to catch one, they normally put on a spectacular show leaping out of the water in their quest to escape. Swan Bay is a good spot in the evening if you strip a large wet fly or a dark spinner.
