Western Lakes

There’s a lot I could say about the attached photo! I could say it took us days of scrub bashing, boulder climbing, hard slog bushwalking to reach this remote shallow body of crystal clear water, located somewhere in Tasmania’s Western Lakes wilderness fishery. But really, it wasn’t too far to walk and the going wasn’t that tough. It was definitely worth the effort to get there and the rewards were so much sweeter.

The Penstock 25/12/2011

A few days before Xmas I spent several most enjoyable days at the Penstock, mainly by myself, and as such had the luxury of deciding where and when to fish.
As we all know fishing at the “P” can either be full on or full off, there are days however when it is sometimes in between. Over the week I struck it all. Bright sky and windy being the main order of the day.

Arthurs Lake 7/1/2012

Janet, my son Jacob and myself headed up to Arthurs Lake this morning and met up with Presidents Jim and Virginia Mckenna for breakfast. As usual we had the egg n bacon "pre - fish" cook up, along with a cup of coffee before heading out to the Cowpaddock around 9.30ish.
Saw one solitary dun on the water for the whole day and only two fish rise.

Arthurs Lake 2/1/2012

Rob and I decided to head for Arthurs yesterday and fish “gentleman’s hours” - the weather looked perfect for a big dun hatch. We arrived at around 11am and conditions were perfect around Brazendale Island– warm and overcast and a light breeze from the north.

Great Lake 1/1/2012

We fished Great Lake on the weekend with Bailey and Jack Seabourne. We managed to catch 16 trout, three being rainbows, caught fish on dry fly and a few on softies. Some nice fish were taken out the middle of the lake on my orange dry. “Shark fishing” out here is fantastic!, all visual, polaroiding fish cruising up wind lanes and taking the dry,...can't beat it.

Lake Leake 23/12/2011

We had a fish at Lake Leake on Friday afternoon with Trev & Bailey, had to go down to St.Helens, so we decided to have a go there on the way down.
We arrived to a flat calm lake, very warm, saw some fish moving on top, got the fly rod out this time and caught four “smallish” rainbows and lost four others, fish caught on emergers.
Trev caught a brownie and a nice bowie around the two pound mark on hard bodies and Bailey caught one rainbow on a softie.
Fishing died off later in the day when a cold front came over from the east.
Hope everyone has a great xmas.
