Lake Leake Report 5/11/2012

Connor, Wally and I went out on Lake Leake for a couple of hours. We were in Wally’s boat and headed out at 12:30, and we trawled up around the Big Timber Shore, only getting a few touches. We then went over to the island getting a bit of cover from the wind, and getting a few hits on Tassie devil lures. We then trawled across in to Choco log bay, where Wally had a nice hit, but dropped it. We fished in there for about 45 minutes, getting a few hits. We then started to head back to Kalangadoo Bay, where Wally hooked this small Rainbow trout.

My brother and I went for a fish down the lake, Connor was fishing off the rocks at the Kalangadoo Bay Boat ramp, and had a few hits from a rainbow, and then he hooked it. It was 30 cm, we headed Back home as the rain started to really come down, and at about 4:30, we went back down as the rain had eased. I had a few hits from this small Rainbow, but I cast out to where there is this stump, let it sink and worked it back. On the 3rd time I let it sink,

Johnny Dekkers and myself fished Lake Leake today. Leaving home at 5am hopes were high that we may get some early morning wind lane action...it wasn't to be. Although a bit chilly, conditions seemed almost perfect with an overcast sky and light winds. No insect life at all, just a light smattering of midge..not enough to get them looking to the surface though.

Connor and I went for a fish down the lake; we had a few casts down off the boat ramp but we had no luck. So we decided to move up around to the Big Timber Shore, and still had no luck… We went back to the boat ramp, and I ended up getting this nice little rainbow! It measured in at 32cm. I caught it on a Loftys green & gold spinner.
This is my 3rd trout for the season, and I hope to get a few more!!!

Lake Leake Report 11/9/2012

We went back down to the lake once the rain eased off, I was fishing at the boat ramp with a “YEP Black and gold flapper” (Thanks Dale!!) And I had a small rainbow have a go at it, but it didn’t take it, I have about 4 more casts, let it sink, and felt a few hits, then it took the soft plastic! It put up a good fight. When I got it to the bank, the hook was not going anywhere, it was in deep! It’s my 2nd trout for the 2012/2013 season. And it’s not a bad size at, 47cm & 1.8pounds!

Lake Leak Report 21/8/2012

Connor and I went for a fish at the lake, we went up around the bay a bit and I flicked a “Yep” Rainbow Ripper minnow around. While Connor was using a squidgy bug, but no luck. We decided to head back to the Kalangadoo Bay Boat ramp, and changed my lure to a metal rainbow lure. I had around about 5 casts, casted let it sink, and I hooked this nice little rainbow! It was my first trout for the season, it wasn’t a monster, but still, I can’t complain!!  Was in good condition and nice and fat! It was 31cm and around about 1lb.

My brother and I went for a fish down the lake, I was fishing off a log and I landed these 2 rainbow trout, the 1st one was 31cm & the 2nd one was 34cm. The trout were in good condition. They were my 1st trout for the season. I hope to catch a few more! (But just a bit bigger)

Lake Leake Report

We arrived around 11am to a stiff 15 knot SW breeze, turning around later and dying off to around 5 knots from the NW later in the day. We finished up with around twelve trout, most being small rainbows up to 1lb. Trev landed a brown of around 3lb in fair condition which had been feeding on stick caddis.
Most fish were caught on Dale’s new hard body lures, “Golden Seducer”, “Red nut” & KW Galaxid.

Lake Leake Christmas 2011

Just before Christmas last year, my brother (10), sister (15) and I (14) went out on Lake Leake fishing. We weren’t out on the water for more than 5 minutes; Connor hooked a small brown, then Gracie-mae but both under size.  Not long after that I hooked something that felt like a log, it was pulling like a freight train!! When we got it up to the side of the boat, it was monster red fin perch!!  We got it in the boat measured and weighed in at 45cm, 2.7pounds, it was a whopper.

Mike, my mate Zam and I took the bit between the teeth and fished Lake Leake on closing weekend. Zam sneaked up early and fished on the Friday for four reasonable fish as well as a few of the small rainbows the lake seems to be teeming with.  Not fair really, as they were already hanging in the safe to tease me when I arrived just on dark Friday night.
