It was interesting to see that there was another huge Broadbill Swordfish, weighing 263kg, caught off the East Coast earlier this week. It’s certainly got a lot of Tasmanian Game anglers interested as well as a lot of interest from Mainland game anglers.

Gamefish have been scarce in the St. Helens area. Eaglehawk Neck however, has been good with plenty of large Albacore Tuna being caught well over the 20kg mark and a few bluefin up around 30kgs. There have also been some bigger Bluefin Tuna being caught in the far south around Pedra Branca, Mewstone and Maatsuyker Island. One Hobart angler landed a jumbo 112kg bluefin last weekend.

bream03Atomic Bream Classic Round 1 St Helens

Firstly massive thank you to the series sponsor Atomic. Special thanks must also go out to Zip Baits and CRANKA lure's for once again jumping on board.
Friday night started well with all anglers toey for what was looking to be a promising weekend of fishing on St Helen's beautiful Georges bay. Briefing was a great event with local tackle shop owner and guru Jamie Henderson opening his shop and putting on a feed for the teams.
The rules were made clear and the Zipbait rogue fish was announced. "king fish". A lot of hearts sunk as many anglers realising the enormous effort it would take to land a king fish on the typical 1-3kg gear angler’s use.

The March long weekend has arrived and there will be plenty of fishing to be done. The West Coast looks like it’s going to be fairly rugged weather wise asthere are westerly winds forecast. This will make the East Coast the better option.

If you want to check out the weather for the weekend have a look at the BOM meteorology website, click on Tasmania and then have a look at MetEye. This is a great tool to look at forecast wind direction and speed, predicted temperature and rainfall and you can also check out the predicted wave heights. It is a very useful tool and you can have a look at any part of the state at 3 hour intervals for 7 days.

Tasmanian Aquaculture Regulator Failing – Leaked Salmon Company Emails Expose Problems

A leaked email from Huon Aquaculture and Petuna Seafoods CEO’s to Premier Will Hodgman and Primary Industries Minister Jeremy Rockliff acknowledges:
“We are very concerned about the waterway we rely on…
The reason why the Review was never completed is because the environment conditions in MH were deteriorating at such a rate it was decided to set up the MH DO (Dissolved Oxygen) Working Group to investigate what the problem was…

Outboard emissions standards move a step closer

From Australia Marine Engine Council - towards sustainable boating http://www.marinecouncil.org.au

Environment Minister Greg Hunt announced today an Agreement between the state and federal ministers that will see emissions standards for outboards on the table by mid 2015. According to the Ministers’ announcement: “Governments will complete work by mid 2015 to develop emissions control measures for: non-road spark ignition engines and equipment.” (Non road spark ignition engines will include outboards petrol engines from lawn mowers to generators.)
“We welcome the business certainty that engine emissions standards are at last on a timetable” said AMEC Chair David Heyes. Congratulating the Minister he added, “Greg Hunt is providing direction and is keeping to his schedule.”
