Lake Augusta 22/12/2011

Oh what a day! Arrived at Lake Augusta at 8 am this morning to find the most perfect conditions a bloke could ask for on his Christmas “wind down”. Over the space of the morning I managed to net 19 fish wading the shore, all in lovely condition.
All were browns, not a rainbow to be seen.

V8 DRIVERS FISH AT OLD MAC’S FARM AND FISHERY

On Monday 16th November, Old Mac’s Farm and Fishery at Norwood showed the Jack Daniels V8 supercar team, Todd and Rick Kelly, and 30 of their guests “good old Tassie” hospitality after the state’s largest annual sporting event.  Mark Hayes, Peter Gittus, Mike Stevens and Australian Fly Fishing Representatives, Craig Carey, Ian Donachy and Joe Riley provided some impressive supervision on fly fishing.

Rapala Fishy Fingers Design Competition

Ever wanted to design a lure pattern… and actually have it manufactured? Well now is your chance!
To celebrate reaching over 30,000 Facebook fans, Rapala VMC Australia has launched a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for one lucky fan to have their ideas manufactured by the international Rapala lure factory; the same factory that has been manufacturing Rapala lures since 1936.
There are some great prizes on offer!

Derwent Bream Report

Howdy fellow Fishermen - So, after not being out to have a crack at a Bream in over 8 months, I finally got to do so over the weekend.
I headed down to Hobart on Friday to pick up Isaac and head up the coast that night to chase some Bream on surface on Saturday. By the time Isaac knocked off work Friday arvo there was no need to rush to get up the coast as we were only camping to get an early start for the following day.

Mersey Snapper

We went down the mouth of the Mersey River this afternoon to check out what the warm water has bought in. Hit the water around 7:30 till 9pm, (should have made a night of it but had to get the kids home).  Caught 2 draft board sharks which the kids loved, not me so much, and a couple of snapper which put a smile on my face, they fight great and that tell tale head shake gets the adrenaline pumping.  All fish caught on squid with just a standard paternoster rig. A quick report from the Great Lake 11/12/2011

This afternoon Bailey, Jack Seabourne and myself went looking for a suitable camp site on the western side of the Great Lake so that we can spend a few days fishing there over Xmas, wasn’t a fishing trip, we threw the rods in, had to have a few casts while we were there.

Leven River - 30/11/11

With humid conditions I was undecided where to fish today, so tossed a coin heads will go to the Leven River and tails to the Meander River. Heads it was. On arriving at the Leven my usual area I fish was flowing very fast and having to cross it there was too risky, so I moved further upstream to another of my favourite fishing zones.

Tangle with a Tiger on the Macquarie

Some wise words written below fellow Presidents, luckily it has a happy ending. Thanks President Mick for the timely reminder as the warmer weather approaches.
President Todd.

G’day all,
I haven’t had many chances to get a lot of fishing in this year, but on Friday (after looking out the window all day at the glorious weather) I jumped in the car after work, packed in my fly rod and went for a look on the Macquarie near Cressy.

Building Cane Rods

I had a young guy from Melbourne called Jack McCowan visit me last week.  He wanted to shoot some video of me working and interview me at the same time.  I nearly said no, but I had a look at a film he'd done before (called Three Two One - on his website - http://www.adventureproject.org) and he looked like he had a lot of potential.
He's using a Canon 7D DSLR for the video.  He has all the attachments to make the video work.  As you can see - he has done a really good job after spending a few short hours with me:

He has been working as a Ski Instructor and Outdoor Event Coordinator in Vic (Mt Baw Baw), and been traveling overseas too.  He's headed back to Melbourne, looking to do some freelance video and look for other work at the ABC etc.
Best Regards, Nick Taransky
