Great Lake Report 27/5/2012

Bailey and I decided to head up to Cramps bay at the Great Lake today to try out our 400 Quintrex Hornet that I purchased a few days ago, ...so off we went. Arrived around 12 noon and fished until around 3.30pm.
Conditions weren't too bad, around 15 to 20 knots blowing out on main Lake coming from the West/S.West, but still fairly sheltered in Cramps.
Hugging the western shore, we fished with plastics and landed 11 trout, two being rainbows.

East Coast Report

May is the beginning of the slower winter period for Tasmanian waters however there is still some great fishing on offer. With April seeing the end of the Brown Trout season for most Tasmanian waters its time to turn to the Rainbow fisheries that are still available to fish until the end of May. These waters include Dee Lagoon, Lagoon of Islands, Lake Rowallan, Lake Skinner, Mersey River above Lake Rowallan, Upper Mersey Lakes and the upstream sections of the two Weld Rivers. This time of year deep trolling with lead line is the preferred method for the lakes and still the possibility of fish on the dry fly in the North East stream.

Brushy Lagoon 14/5/2012

Thought it was about time to send in a photo and share story of a nice big fish. Caught this 6.2kg atlantic salmon late afternoon Monday, May 14 with assistance of colleagues who found not only was the net too small but that the fish so heavy it had to be dragged ashore.

Gazza's Big Day Out

Two weeks ago, myself and long time workmate, (Gary Garwood), took a voluntary redundancy package from Aurora, ..between us we had been employed there for over 60 years. Gary actually trained me as an apprentice linesman all those years ago. Before we left Aurora, we said," whilst we were unemployed" we would try and get together for a fish as often as we could, as a way of staying in touch with each other.

I woke up Saturday morning not to early, looked outside through the bedroom window and knew it would be a great day to go fishing. I thought Brushy's would be good, try and catch a salmon or two. So my lovely wife made some lunch and a thermos of coffee for me while I hooked the boat up to the car.
I rang my brother Dom up to see if he was keen to go as well, he was so I headed off and pick him up on the way. We arrived at Brushy's around 10am put the boat in and slowly trolled towards the dam wall. There were about eight people fishing off the wall and three boats as well as a couple kayaks working the lagoon.

Saltwater Report 20/5/2012

Just a short report from Georges Bay at St.Helens from my son Bailey and his cousin Nathan Zanetto. They fished the Bay today and got onto some nice trevally on Dales Yep pearl whites.
They also lost a couple of "real horses", one going around a pylon and breaking Bailey off, Nathan also lost a good one in the weed.That aside, they still nailed a few nice ones all were released.

IFS Trout Weekend

Hi all, the weather is predicted to be cold, but it is always fun. Zero to seven is what my weather man says with clearing showers. Westerly winds are what they say, but mostly under 25 kph. Chance of rain is only 5% so it looks good. Rug up and come on up.
We have a few goodies for sale and they are a fantastic bargain. You can pick up a stainless steel floating fillet knife, 7 compartment tackle box, poster, Groper bandana and a couple of magazines for $10. This is over $50 in value and the stock is limited.

Across Agency Co-operation Saves Fish and Wildlife

Two compliance incidents this week demonstrate the effectiveness of across agency enforcement operations. The issues affected and involved both the Parks and Wildlife Service and the Inland Fisheries Service, and resulted in the protection of native fauna and recreational fishing species. This is good news for anglers and the Tasmanian community.
