Tyenna River 11/12/2012

I had some work to do in Hobart yesterday & Trev came along for support just in case we found a small stream somewhere on the way back.
“It so happened” that we did stumble across the Tyenna River after about an hour driving from Hobart.
We soon found a spot to start the search for our first ever Tyenna trout.
As soon as we started looking, we spotted fish ... Not that easy to catch though, being this close to the road.
I think they might have had every lure and fly in southern Tasmania chucked at them.

Coastal Catches 13/11/2012

Life is very busy at the moment and unfortunately there is not much time for us to go fishing due to the demands of the retail world. There are plenty of customers coming in with tales of fishing trips and offers to go fishing with them. I am sure it’s just their way of rubbing it in.
We have had some positive reports regarding the western lakes in that there has already been some reasonable mayfly activity and some of the fish that have been caught have been in very good condition. Things are looking good as we move further into summer.

Situation report on East Coast Algal Event Emergency Closures

A situation update dated 13 December is now available on the Emergency Fishery Closures webpage at www.fishing.tas.gov.au. Eddystone Point to the southern end of Marion Bay remains closed to recreational rock lobster fishing i.e no change to the closure for rock lobster. The recreational abalone fishery in the area will be opened from 14 December 2012.

Penstock Lagoon 9/12/2012

We were off to fish Penstock on Sunday headed up the mountain about 8 o'clock. We got to Cramps bay turn off Road Closed because of bush fires couldn't get through, so we took the long way.
Back down the mountain through Liffy to the A5 high way past Great Lake an extra one an half hours . Finally got to the shack at Flintstone to pick up my boat then back to Penstock about 11.30 . On the water fishing the dam end had a few cast Duns starting to show, we were pulling wets.

Situation report on East Coast Algal Event Emergency Closures

A situation update dated 7 December is now available on the Emergency Fishery Closures webpage at www.fishing.tas.gov.au.

Sampling and testing indicates that Flathead and squid are safe to eat.
The area from Eddystone Point to the southern end of Marion Bay remains closed for fishing and taking of rock lobster and abalone for recreational fishers.
The recreational rock lobster and abalone closure will remain in place pending the results from rock lobster samples and other sampling within the closed area.
Results expected over the next week should give a better indication of how long the closures will be in place.

East Coast Closures 29/11/2012

An update from DPIPWE on the emergency closure of part of the east coast of Tasmania to recreational rock lobster and abalone fishing.
Emergency Closures FAQs
On Thursday, 22 November 2012, part of the east coast of Tasmania was closed to recreational rock lobster and abalone fishing. Some commercial fisheries are also closed. The Recreational Fisheries Section of DPIPWE has been receiving a large volume of enquiries about the closure and a set of frequently asked questions has now been released with answers to questions such as:

How long will the closure be in place?
Can fishers transit through the closed area?
Which fish can I eat?

Tassiepaddlers annual get together @ Arthurs Lake.

Only five hardy (foolhardy?) souls gathered @ Pumphouse Bay campsite on Friday, meeting Simmo who had arrived the day before.
Cold. Windy. Pissing rain and even a heavy, but brief, hailstorm! Noice.
Simmo and Doc were out fishing when I arrived, so during a break between showers (deluges!) I set up camp. They came back just after I'd set up, and we had a coffee. Simmo had a good trout, and we decided it was cold, wet and unpleasant at the camp, wouldn't be much worse on the lake, and a better chance of a fish on the lake than at camp, so we set off.

South Esk River 28/11/2012

I had a couple of hours off today so I decided to hook on the tinny and explore the South Esk River in my little 12 foot tinny. I managed 7 in very short time, 3 taken on a klinkhammer dry and the rest on the orange bead - head nymph.

Cramps Bay 25/11/2012

Bailey & I decided it was about time we got into a bit of dry fly fishing, so with a good forecast we decided to spend a few of hours up at Cramps Bay at Great lake. Werrived around 12pm and fished till 5pm, was tough going. There were plenty of gum beetles on the water, but not too many taking off the top; we did a lot of running around looking for likely spots.

Back to Pedder for 2013

The annual Back to Pedder comp for 2013 is set to run over the traditional Australia Day period in January. Commencing on Thursday 24th and concluding on Monday 28th with the mid-morning weigh-in and lunchtime presentations wrapping up proceedings.
