Recently Atlantic salmon seems to be a very hot topic amongst local anglers, especially those in the south of the state in the D'Entrecasteaux area. Northern anglers should take a close look at the Tamar as there are opportunities here as well.
The recent "great escape" has provided a perfect opportunity for fresh and saltwater anglers alike to experience some truly memorable sport. Tasmania's pristine, clean and cool waters are the perfect nursery for the Atlantic Salmon and as our local fish farms produce more and more fresh quality seafood it is a fact that there are going to be tangible consequences.

The weather was very unkind to those fishing in the Pirtek Fishing Challenge last Sunday and conditions were nothing short of atrocious. The results will be announced on Saturday and we are all hoping that anglers from the North West Coast are among the prizes.
There is some good news coming out of the Eaglehawk Neck area because there were a few Bluefin caught last weekend including a 127kg Jumbo sized one. Everyone has their fingers crossed that it is going to be a good season and there will be plenty of fish about.

BRIGHT AND WINDY CONDITIONS, BUT STILL MANAGED A FEW 20/3/2013
After spending a few days on the East Coast and having a spin session in the Upper Scamander River without even spotting a fish over a kilometer of working the river, it was back to Sheffield a day earlier than originally planned. The wife and I left Scamander around 8.30 am and headed for home and once home the car unpacked, then it was a bit of a rest, some lunch and off to the Mersey River.

I shot off to Merseylea late this afternoon for a spin in mainly overcast conditions and light winds, hoping to finally get a few fish and break my dry spell. Arrived around 5.00 PM and found the river to be low and very clear and it was clear of the green cotton like algae that I experienced at Weegena a while back. The river bottom was still covered in a brown slime and there was a lot of water weeds in.

Great Lake Report 9/3/2013I haven't been fishing much lately that's why NO reports coming from this direction, but none the less we have one now. Went to the Great lake on Saturday with some mates 3 boats in total and 6 fishermen, upon arrival we decided to make some fun out of the long weekend and made it a little competition between all the boats.
Bicheno Report 10/3/2013I headed out to Bicheno this morning, along with my daughter Demi, son Jacob and the guru Phil Zanetto. Given the promising weather forecast the plan was to troll out to our striped trumpeter spots with the hope of catching a few albacore along the way. As we arrived at the foot of the Elephant pass, we were disappointed to see white caps and a southerly wind blowing in at around 20 knots,... that along with a 2 metre swell !!
Dolphinfish at St HelensHi all just a few photos of our rare dolphinfish catch Saturday 9 March on the cliffs. Weather was a bit dodgy but stayed there for a while caught plenty of albies both days and stripies. Also lost a good fish that ripped out over 300 metres of line, but that's fishing. When we hooked and landed the three dolphinfish we went back around over the same spot and hooked up three small kingfish. Two were landed and one dropped. All in all good weekend.
