World Fly Fishing Championships, Norway 2013 Summary

It is disappointing to travel this far and get such poor fishing. For the Aussies, the planning starts more than 18 months before the event and you can’t help but feel a little deflated once everything is over. A ninth place finish was not what we had hoped for and although a ‘podium’ finish might seem a long way off, it is certainly achievable. There were many lessons learned from this year’s event.

East Coast Toxic Algal Bloom Update

Levels of the toxic algal species Alexandrium tamarense have been increasing in several locations on the East Coast since early August.
How does this affect recreational fishers?
At this stage, there are no changes to the recreational fishery.

Four Springs Report 9/8/2013

I had a couple of hours at Four Springs in the rain. I must be getting silly in my old age, or just love my fishing. I managed to catch a couple, dropped a few and had a couple more hits. There was about eight boats on the water and about the same amount fishing from the shore, so I wasn't the only silly one! I'm now back home sitting by the heater to get warm again.

First Report
I thought I would send you all a quick email from Europe as I had promised I would. As you will know, the team arrived in Norway this morning for two weeks of practice before the official competition week.Unfortunately, I have been unable to join them in Mosjoen as I have been unwell and in hospital since Saturday. It turned out that I had a bad case of gastro and my antibiotics seem to be doing the job. As I am currently in Wales, I will join the team in the evening of the 4th of August.

Nice Couple of Hours on the Mersey River 7/8/2013

After August the 6ths wet conditions with some 44mms of rain in and around the Kentish area I thought another trip was worthwhile to the Mersey River once again. Left home in cool and sunny conditions and arrived at my ever reliable hole on the Mersey and had both worm baited rigs in the water in no time at all. The river was at least 350mm higher this morning than on Monday and I was a little unsure of how my little fishing hole would go as there was a fair flow of water pushing through it. I could see that it had been much higher too as there were the signs of flattened grass along the river bank and I could see the high water mark that it had reached. The Mersey had already dropped around 400mm from that mark which was good for me. Had it been at that height this morning I would be looking elsewhere to drop a worm.

Lake Leake Report 4/8/2013

Four Springs 6/8/2013

I decided to have a day off work with Bailey and go fishing.
The mad Hungarian George Papp also came along,...he didn't want to work either .
So we left home around 9.30 am,got on the water at 10.30 am,dropped George off on the western shore,as he wanted to fly fish that shore line and Bailey and I drifted around the southern bay.

Latest Brushy Lagoon Stocking

If you haven't checked the IFS website recently, Brushy Lagoon has been stocked in the last week with some good sized rainbow trout and atlantic salmon.  We fished the dam wall end this morning in Craig's brand new tinny.  We anchored up well clear of the dam wall in a 4 metre deep section of the lagoon.  Conditions were calm, but cold.
