Become a Fishcare Volunteer
Fishcare Tasmania is looking for new recruits. A statewide training weekend is being held in Hobart from 12-13 October for new and existing volunteers at the Woodbridge Marine Discovery Centre. Becoming a volunteer is a great way to do your bit for Tasmania's fisheries and to meet other like-minded people. Fishcare volunteers attend fishing events around the State and have the satisfaction of knowing they've made a difference.
From 15 October to 14 November 2012, all waters south from Lemon Rock (south of Wineglass Bay) to the northern end of Marion Beach (south of Maria Island) and including Coles Bay, Great Oyster Bay and Mercury Passage are closed to protect spawning calamari. See a map of the closed area. Taking calamari and any other squid is not permitted during the closure period.
