Wanted - King George whiting frames

IMAS lecturer Dr James Haddy is studying the growth and stock status of King George whiting in Tasmania and he needs your help.

If you are catching KGW, he would like your filleted frames, preferably with guts left in. Place in a plastic bag with details including date and area of capture. When frozen, contact James on 6324 3828 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. You can also catch up with him at the Devonport Fishing Forum where he'll be talking about KGW and other species.

Scallop season

Marine Police continue to enforce scallop catch limits, which ensure divers only take their fair share, leaving scallops in the water for future seasons. Fishers are reminded that the scallop on-water possession limit and daily bag limit is 50. This means you cannot dive in the morning, take your 50 bag limit then take more scallops later that day. You can dive the next day providing you do not exceed the possession limit of 100 scallops anywhere in Tasmania.

During the Easter break, the Police issued a number of fines to fishers for exceeding catch limits and taking undersize scallops.
