Another Top Day On The Meander River 28-1-2016

Rain & thunder storms were the forecast for today and I was unsure whether to go fishing today or not. At 5.20am I decided I'm going and hopefully get a couple of hours in before the weather sets in. I headed on over to the Meander River once again as it's been the river that's been fishing well for me so I'm sticking with it. I was in the river by 6.35am and picked up a small (270gm) brown on the very first cast. Can't beat that for a start to the session that's for sure. Today I was back to using the black bladed black fury as it did the job for me the last time I fished this area on the Meander.
This three kilometer run of river has a mix of fast and medium/fast water so I'm hoping it will fish as good as my last trip here when I caught & released 21 browns back on the 6th January.

After fishing the first two hundred meters of river I had caught and released five browns from seven hook ups which I was fairly satisfied with. The cloud was very low and it was as dark as a dogs guts with the sound of thunder in the distance. I thought I'd better not mess around today so I bypassed a couple of the wide medium flowing stretches and concentrated on fishing the faster runs. This was a good idea as there were fish in every one of them and I finished the day with 18 browns from 25 hook ups. The best brown went 520 gms and was taken in a fast water that was no deeper than five inches (125mms). Most of the trout today varied in size from 270 gms up to the 520 gm fish and these were all in top condition too. The only problem I had again today was those damn little flies, there are thousands of them around at the moment. They certainly tested my patience I tell you. I had smothered my self in Aero Guard but that still didn't stop them. I found the only way to keep them off my face was to keep my face wet from putting river water on it. So that was my day, one lasted four hours and was another top day on the Meander River. As I reached Sheffield the skies opened up and it rained quite heavy as well as having a good dose of thunder & lightning. This will freshen p the rivers, so there should be some good trout fishing to be had in most rivers from now on..
