Rock Lobster Fishery Closure for Biotoxin Testing

Elevated levels of paralytic shellfish toxins (PST) have been found in shellfish on a marine farm in Mercury Passage on the East Coast.

Under protocols developed for managing the rock lobster fishery, the commercial and recreational lobster fisheries will be closed in the Maria Island Biotoxin Zone to allow lobster to be taken and tested for PST.

The rock lobster fishery in the Maria Island Biotoxin Zone will be closed as from 00:01 on Saturday 8 August 2015. Pots must be pulled before midnight on Friday night 7 August 2015.
