Recreational Licences on Sale

The Recreational Fishing licences for the 2011-12 season will be on sale from Monday 17th October.  You can buy them from Service Tasmania or online at www.fishing.tas.gov.au/licence

Sea Fishing Guide Out Now 

 The 2011-12 Recreational Sea Fishing Guide is now available from Service Tasmania outlets or you can read it online

Featured in this year's Guide are all the new rock lobster rules for this season.  Also read what's new in Recreational Fishing Surveys and the latest scientific research in Fishery Snapshots.

Squid Closure 

From 15 October to 14 November 2011 all waters south from Lemon Rock (south of Wineglass Bay) to the northern end of Marion Beach (south of Maria Island) and including Coles Bay, Great Oyster Bay and Mercury Passage are closed to protect spawning calamari.  See a map of the closed area.  Taking calamari and any other squid is not permitted during the closure period.

Shellfish Alert 

There is a current public health alert on eating abalone in the Huon Estuary, D'Entrecasteaux Channel and south of Bruny Island.  Do not harvest or eat wild abalone from these areas until you have read the public health alert.
