A media release hot off the press from Joe Ludwig's office

I am just drafting a response - until I send you something more detailed, just be careful about too strongly supporting this straight away, as it turns out it just extends their ability to prevent other proposed supertrawlers temporarily and initiates a scientific review (as per the current one). This is NOT tough supertrawler powers - tough supertrawler powers would be a permanent ban on ALL supertrawlers...

Will get back to you asap,

George Town Fishing Forum

Are you able to come along to George Town Fishing Forum next Tuesday 12th March?
It would be great to have you there. Click Read More!

Can we trust the Prime Minister to keep his word?

Politics in the Pub Report

The first of the "Politics in the pub" meetings was held in Launceston last night in front of a modest crowd of around 25 people. The Stop the Trawler Alliance is made up of representatives from recreational fishers and environment groups,... United as one on this issue.

Be aware the threat is still very real that Super Trawlers could yet be granted permission to fish in Australian waters.

Recreational fishers and conservation groups launch a joint campaign

I have been asked to respond to this on behalf of Ron Denne, President of the Longford Fishing Club.
The Super Trawler subject was raised at the Longford Fishing Club meeting on the 4th February 2014. The vote by attending members was unanimous that we do not support such a vessel operating in Australian waters”
Kind Regards, Greg Davis on behalf of Ron Denne

Media Release Thursday 30 January 2014
Fishers and Conservationists Seek Election Commitment to Permanently Ban Super Trawlers
Recreational fishers and conservation groups today launched a joint campaign seeking pre-election commitments from all political parties to permanently ban super trawlers and prevent Tasmania becoming the dumping ground for companies using destructive commercial fishing methods.

Borthwick Report

Attached is a copy of the Borthwick Report and associated federal govt response for your information, released today. The Borthwick Review was an outcome of the Super Trawler issue. We were interviewed by the author David Borthwick and put in a TARFish submission, whilst also writing the national peak body submission. My initial reading is that all the major issues we raised have been picked up by the report and the govt response supports our views.

Celebration Rally

This rally is still going ahead, it’s now a celebration rally for anyone interested in attending.

Attached is a jpeg version of the A4 poster for the rally - feel free to print it, post it up and share it as much as possible. I have also included below a smaller sized version for use in emails or on websites.
