Coastal Catches 15/11/2012

Lake Kara has been a popular destination over the last week as the Inland Fisheries service released 540 Atlantic salmon. Lake Rosebery also received 540. The Salmon were donated by Springfield fisheries and I am sure that the many anglers who take the opportunity to catch these fish would like to thank them. The bag limit on both lakes has not been reduced however the IFS is urging anglers to limit their catch so that everyone can have a share of these fish.

A couple of well known Burnie anglers caught a Mako shark on the weekend. The estimated weight was around 100kg. As the water warms up the numbers should increase.
There are some good sized Australian Salmon being caught in the circular Head area. Western inlet at Stanley is a good place to start. Have a crack at them with some Atomic Rippers in Pearl White. I don’t know what it is about these soft plastics but the salmon go nuts over them.
There are a few people going Bream Fishing on the East Coast and having some good success. Have a crack at them with Berkley gulp fry in Camo or Watermelon. Another good lure are the Cranka Vibes. They are a sinking lure and will get down to where the Bream are.
There are still plenty of reports coming in regarding Calamari squid along the coast. There are some good ones being caught off the Burnie boat ramp and also at Doctors rocks near Wynyard.
Fishing is starting to really fire up in the Highlands. I have heard reports of good numbers of fish being caught at Arthurs lake. Woods lake is fishing well and the fish are in good condition. Pine Tier lagoon is a lake that is often forgotten and is well worth a visit. It has been fishing well lately and is usually a good place to retreat to if the wind is blowing a gale.
Mudeyes are available again. They are the nymphal stage of Dragonflies and are a fantastic Trout bait. They are usually fished in conjunction with a small water filled float and small hooks. If you are unsure on how to use them, head to your local tackle store for some advice.
It’s only a little over a week until the lake Burbury fishing competition. Entry forms must be in by 12 noon next Friday so if you are intending fish the comp you had better grab an entry form and send it off.

Gadget of the week.

Warmisham soft plastic grubs.
These very realistic soft plastic grubs are hand poured in Launceston and have aniseed scent othem. We have heard some good success stories from some of our customers. Check them out at Tassie Tackle and Outdoor.
