Great Lake Report 25/9/2011

I was invited to join Dale and Trevor Howard in the Highlands and spent a fantastic day on the water with them. We arrived at the Swan Bay around 11am and soon had the Express Cavalier pointed in the direction of our first destination. This shoreline fished very slow, so we shot over to another area which usually produces some good specimens and we soon had 4 nice Browns in the boat within about 20mins. We caught these on YEP Minnows in the Gold Bomber colour and Black & Gold Flappers.

Todd and Mark had just pulled ashore in the vicinity of us, so we joined them for a cook-up and a cold brew and put together a plan for the rest of the afternoon.

The conditions were almost too good mid afternoon as there was very little wind to aid in getting a good drift along the shorelines, but we plugged away in one of the popular bays picking up enough fish to keep us interested.

We then decided to head back to where we landed a few earlier in the day and managed to land some lovely fish working the deep drop-offs leading up to some nice flats of one of our favorite shores. I seemed to have had lost my mojo and Dale and Trev put some very nice fish in the boat towards the end of the session. One of these fish smashed Dale's Minnow in the Spotted Aussie colour as soon as it hit the water, which was only about 1ft deep at best, and the take was awesome to witness.

We ended up with 13 fish for the session and most were in good to very good condition apart from about 3 and one of which I landed was in absolute terrible condition! We usually call the slabby fish "axehandles", but this one was more like a butterknife from the head back!

All in all it was a fantastic day on the water catching up with a couple of mates that I haven't had the chance to fish with in a long time. Catching a few fish in-between the laughs along the way was just a bonus. Thanks for a top day out fella's.

Cheers
Daz
