SHIMANO SAROS FA SPIN REEL

The existing Shimano Saros threadline series has been re-built from the ground up, with a stylish new appearance and a heap of extra features.

Looking especially smart in a gunsmoke grey, black and metallic finish, the FA series covers all the popular small to medium reel sizes — 1000, 2500, 3000 and 4000. The new XGT7 graphite frame, rotor and sideplate cuts down weight while maintaining strength, and we have X-Ship for increased gearing efficiency and power, delivered via a zinc DC gear and a hardened brass pinion for longevity and light-touch handle rotation.

All four reels come with five SA-RB Bearings and one roller bearing for gloriously smooth performance. A sealed maintenance port assists in this regard.

Castability is excellent, thanks to Aerowrap Oscillation, Propulsion Line Management, the Propulsion Spool Lip, and the Power Roller on the bail arm, keeping line under control at all times without wind knots or fluffing.

The Saros are also equipped with Shimano’s Rapid Fire Drag for easy and precise adjustments during the course of a fight. A wide range of settings makes them suitable for use with Power Pro braid or conventional monofilament, without sacrificing performance.

The smaller reels have a blisteringly fast 6.0:1 retrieve speed, while the 4000FA comes in at a slightly more modest 5.8:1, but recovers 94 centimetres of line with every turn of the well balanced machined aluminium handle.
