How about nominating for RecFAC?

The Minister for Primary Industries and Water is currently seeking nominations to fill nine vacancies for recreational fisheries representatives on the Recreational Fishery Advisory Committee (RecFAC).

The RecFAC provides expert advice to the Minister on the management of recreational sea fishing matters including fishery reviews, policy and Fishwise Community Grant applications.  Most of the members are recreational fishers, plus a member each from DPIPWE, Tasmanian Aquaculture and Fisheries Institute and the Marine Police.  Membership is renewed every 2-3 years.

Nominations are sought from individuals or representatives of fishing associations who are able to demonstrate an ability to provide strategic input into management, research and educational planning for recreational sea fishing.  An informal background briefing on fisheries management will be provided to appointees.

At least one representative will be considered from each major Tasmanian region (south, north/north-east, and northwest/west) and there will be up to 6 other representatives who may be either individuals or representatives of sea fishing associations.

The RecFAC meets 5-6 times a year to consider issues of importance for managing Tasmania's recreational fisheries, providing advice to the Minister and the Department.  Members are not paid for their work on the Committee, however travel allowances may be paid to attend meetings.

Further information, including details on how to apply, is available from Rod Pearn, Recreational Sea Fishing Section, DPIPWE, phone (03) 6233 3523 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
