  1. North West Coast: all waters from Woolnorth Point east to Table Cape.
  2. Central North Coast: all waters from Point Sorell to Stony Head including Port Sorell and kanamaluka/Tamar River.

 2016-17 rock lobster survey

The annual IMAS survey of 18,000 recreational rock lobster licence holders has reported:
an estimated total recreational catch of 87,650 lobsters or 88 tonnes;

68% were taken by pot,
29% by dive and
3% ring;

the average catch was
1.07 lobster per day:
0.87 for pots,
1.90 for dive and
1.88 for rings.

43% of active fishers retained
1-5 lobsters for the period;
6% took more than 20;

Almost 60% of the total catch was taken from the East Coast Stock Rebuilding Zone.

Catch Tag Report
Catch tags for rock lobster have also been in the spotlight recently as a potential solution for managing the recreational catch. The effectiveness and costs of catch tags for limiting recreational catch was assessed in a DPIPWE Fisheries report. Read the reports here

Gone Fishing Day
​Sunday 15th October is national Gone Fishing Day. It's a great opportunity to take family, mates or just yourself fishing in the great Tassie outdoors.
Sea Fisheries: Fishcare Tasmania will be running Community Liaison Patrols with rods available to fish in the following areas:
McGees Bridge: 10.00 am - 12:00 pm
Inspection Head Wharf, Beauty Point: 9:00 am - 1.00 pm
Georges Bay, St Helens: 10.00am - 12.00 pm
Wynyard fishing platform: 3.00 - 5.00 pm
Port Sorell fishing pontoon: 9.00 am - 11.00 am

Inland Fisheries: The Inland Fisheries Service are having a licence free day on Gone Fishing Day. All other regulations apply. Anglers Alliance Tasmania are hosting five junior angling events between 10am to 3pm at the following venues:
Hiscutt Park, Penguin
Frombergs Dam, Ulverstone
Taylors Dam, Latrobe
Wallabadah, Longford
Bushy Park Estate, Bushy Park

Striped trumpeter reminder
A reminder that the striped trumpeter season is currently closed until 1 November. The closure protects striped trumpeter during the key spawning period.
