TROUT & SALMON PHOTO COMP LAUNCH

Trout Guides & Lodges Tasmania with major sponsors Huon Aquaculture have launched a state-wide, national and international photographic competition to recognize and reward anglers for participation in their passion during the current 150th anniversary of trout in Tassie. “We see this competition as an fitting opportunity to bring the 150th year of trout fishing, includung angling memories of the past to a rewarding conclusion” Says TGALT promotions officer, Roger Butler

“Check out the albums, scan those old prints, take the camera or mobile with you next time – those freshwater fishing shots could reward you with something special. Up to $10,000 worth of cash and give-a-ways are in the prizes mix.” Butler added.

 Laura Bender, Community Relations Coordinator for Huon Aquaculture says, “Huon is delighted to support this event as it brings together both the Tasmanian angling community and the salmon industry to celebrate the world-class fish we have in Tasmania.”

Competition entries will open on the 1st November 2014 and run till 31st March 2015, allowing the majority of the current season to be included. Entry is free and conditions of entry are on the competition specific web site http://www.150yrsoftastrout.com.au

There will be a number of prizes in each category and the winners plus selected finalists in each will be mounted and displayed at the Central Highlands Community Hall, Miena from Easter 2015 to close of the IFS Liawenee Open Day in May 2015.

Together with our major sponsors, Inland Fisheries Service and numerous TGALT members have contributed both cash and (in-kind) goods and services to make this a fitting conclusion to what is a mile-stone year in Tasmanian trout fishing history.

The competition will conclude with a gala presentation night and dinner at the Miena CHC Community Hall on the 18th April 2015.

Butler added, “we are pleased to announce an international flavour to the presentation night with Ken Tsurusaki (international fresh water photographer based in Japan – chair of judges) and the editor of the Japanese FlyFisher magazine being guests at the dinner”.

We are planning a northern exhibition of the finalists with the Tasmanian Fly Fishing Museum at Clarendon House displaying those mounted shots during the opening months of the 2015/16 season.
