The Derwent Catchment ProjectThe Derwent Catchment Project is running a training session that may appeal to Anglers who want to learn more about waterbugs that attract the trout . We are running a free training day in how to identify waterbugs at Tynwald Park New Norfolk on Sunday April 8th 2018 from 9am-2pm (but you don’t have to stay for the whole session).

We identify water bugs using basic equipment (no microscope required!) together with a groovy phone app or key. We will have a Freshwater Ecologist on hand who helped develop the system.

We’re running the training so that in Spring community members can take part in the National WaterbugBlitz which is a project that helps assess waterway health by looking at its water bugs. Again this may be of interest to Anglers who could help us out by doing a ‘Mayfly Muster’ i.e. see what mayflies are hanging around their favourite fishing spot.

If you think that AAT members would be interested to know more I could arrange for the Freshwater Ecologist that is coming to our training session to speak at one of your meetings.

If you can’t make it to the training day consider coming to our Information night at New Norfolk Library on Saturday the 7th of April at 7.30pm.

Please find attached a flyer about the event and another flyer about the National Waterbug Blitz that you can share with AAT members.

Kind regards

Trish Clements
