Don Heads Squids

Took the kids down the end of Coles beach road, (on the rocky point),  to try to catch a feed of squid over the reef.
Just as the sun disappeared behind Don Heads they came on the bite and we landed 10 good size one's in around an hour using squid jigs.

Rock Lobster Review Outcomes

The new rock lobster management plan has now been released meaning new rock lobster rules apply for this recreational season which opens on Saturday, 5th November.
The main changes are the division of state fishing waters into the Eastern and Western Rock Lobster Fishing Regions and a reduced bag limit in the Eastern Region of 3 rock lobsters per day with an on-water possession limit of 6 for multiple day trips.  Other changes include new on-water boat limits and reduced possession limits for non-fishers.

Netting must stop

Today I have witnessed commercial fisherman at Godfrey's Beach in Stanley dragging nets and catching a very large quantity of salmon.
Over the last couple of days my family and other locals and tourists have been enjoying blackback and cocky salmon that have been caught along the beach at Godfrey's very close to the shore, but today (14th June, 2011) we discovered commercial fisherman with a beach seine net, the same commercial fisherman that caught salmon in the Cam River, loading up fish in a 4-by-8 foot boxer trailer and their 4WD.
I believe this is not fair for the recreational fishers of Stanley,

Turners Beach

Trev and I headed out off Turners Beach for about 10 k and ran a burley trail for about 5 hours no luck with the mako’s, just heaps of dogfish (very annoying).
We then headed in to Lillico Strait and got on to some nice pike, heaps of fun on the trout gear.
We got them drift spinning in 2 meters of water on the pearl white flapper.

Schouten passage Easter 2011

by Todd - Jim, Virginia and myself left home at 7am this morning with high hopes of getting onto a few.
Arrived at Swansea around 8.30ish only to find the boat ramp at dead low tide....nowhere near enough water to launch the boat.
Back in the car and off to Saltworks road, conditions perfect so we went straight out to the passage.
